Go Green. Go Recycled.

1/24/2010 11:50 pm

I never thought about buying anything lately because 1. I don't have money to buy stuff and 2. I'd rather save my money for something very important that's coming my way. But, still, I imagine of buying myself a bulky lumbar pack that I always wanted to test. (its feel, carrying capabilities and so and so) Lately, as I visited a site of a well known pack manufacturer, I was stunned to see a pack that used mainly recycled materials. And I'm talking about a big company who could have chosen a more 'commercial' fabric to use for their packs. I'm not trying to promote or anything but Mountainsmith's packs are now using 100% recycled pet bottles( you know, the bottles that we usually crumple after using or recycled into water containers back at home.) YES, the pack fabric is made out of recycled cola bottles and they're still as rough as they can get. I am just amazed at how innovative people are getting in contributing to the global u-turn of our non-ecologically sound actions in the past. I mean, it's a great way to minimize our carbon footprint, and, it's a good way of making use of those old plastic bottles that litter the streets or alleys of almost major city or tourist destination in the world.

I may sound ideal but if these BIG companies can do that, then we: small and insignificant as we may think, can do something and contribute to this state of mind and ideology. We can really lessen the impact of our day-to-day activities. I mean, if you don't need a straw to drink from your glass of softdrink while you are eating in a fastfood restaurant, then DON'T! How hard is it to lift your glass then gulp it the old fashioned way? And, when you're with kids, try to discourage them to get miles of drinking straw that they would just use to make a straw tower. And please, try to use recyclable bags when you're at the grocery or at the mall when you're shopping, don't waste double plastic bags just for a pack of pasta and canned meat.Hindi baduy and magdala ng bag na pwede mong ulit ulitin ng gamit, nakakatulong ka nga e. THINK. In that little way you can help save money, and the ozone layer for that matter. Use old newspapers for towels to wipe spills on your table or desk. Try bringing a mug if you're a coffee drinker (or taho enthusiast, hi Manong Taho) instead of using paper or styro cups.Lastly, avoid using STYRO for eating or drinking. RECYCLE. RECYCLE. RECYCLE.

Imagine if all of us can do this little change in our lives. We don't need quantum physics to think these things over guys, we just need to use our heads a little bit more.

A move to help, innovate and diversify

It was only days ago when the wrath of nature destroyed the city of Haiti, Latin America. Organizations from all over the globe both public and private reached out to lend their hands to the people whose lives had been damaged by the catastrophic incident. With the advent of new technology and innovation, it is common but still paradoxically surprising to see people whose lives are truly out of the disaster, to give out their hands.

I was senselessly facebook-ing yesterday when I saw posts by organizations that are willingly helping the victims of the disaster. They are appealing for help, donations, and volunteers and it is great to know that many are sympathizing. Many already sent their help and many are still expected to do so. Here, check out these links:

www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=251222260909&ref=mf

In addition to that, most of the facebook applications like Mafia wars, etc., are campaigning for the victims of the Haiti disaster. It is great to know that even though most of us see this world as place of chaos and misunderstanding, love between people of varying languages, nationalities, religions and philosophies still persist. True, the real goodness of men will always prevail and with the continuing and combined efforts of countries to unite a world broken apart by diverse differences, it would not be uncommon to see a world of technology, innovation, diversity, understanding and love.

Late. Due to technical difficulties.

Another Step to Stop Climate Change

12 13 2009.

Local action groups aim to raise awareness towards climate change at People's Park in Baguio City. Baguio Forumer's Club, Makamundo and other various organizations assemble at the park in an effort to show that we can make a change in turning from bad to good with regards to the world we live in. A program was held at the park, including audio visual presentations which provide simple reminders on how to save energy, thus saving the environment in return.

People flockto the park to witness the simple gathering. From passers-by and young people curiously watch bands perform and hear what the organizers of the program had to say.

Aftermath.

11/28/09 Saturday.

I was preparing my meal for dinner last night and my landlady was hovering around the house discussing a few things with her children. I, being the oblivious person I am sometimes, did not mind what they were talking about and continued my own business of preparing my gourmet canned dinner composing of a foreign brand of luncheon meat, egg, and of course steamed rice. My landlady however, noticed my 'main course' for the night. She said 'Hala ka, di ba may Melamine yan? Yan 'yung nabalita dati a.' After which she gave a little laugh, cuing me that it was a joke. I smiled in courteous reply and said 'Ay, opo.' She then said 'Biro lang, sige kain ka na 'dyan.'

The Melamine findings scared the whole world and gave its poor citizens another thing to worry about in life. Yet another scare, another dirty play I'd say.

That insignificant moment made me think of the ever infamous power of the media to make people believe. This country says this and the other denies. A constant play of power really. I think that the scare was just a way to give people something to think about, or, something more to worry about. Lead poisoning, melamine scare, anthrax threat, swine flue, SARS and etcetera. Instead of giving us problems, why don't they just give us solutions? But still, thanks for the heads up.

What really makes me wonder is that are the mentioned products safe to consume now? Maybe they are safe now because I was just able to buy one can from a well known establishment. I am oblivious, sorry for that. If there are news pertaining to my question please feel free to post. For now I'll feast on my 'fire retardant' meal. Chow time!

Setting things straight.

11/23/09 Monday.

Instead of beating the deadline, the deadline beat me. Oh well. Back to the notepad for me.

Hi. Hello. This is my very first entry for this blog. I really am not much of a blogger but as the need arises ( i.e. this is my actual blog for my Journ 113 class, hi classmates! ) I will try my best not to look stupid as much as possible for reasons such as :

1. this is a graded class
2. I kind of want to create an outlet for my most wasted thoughts and ideas as of late
3. and maybe, just maybe, this is what I need to get things straight

I almost forgot to introduce myself. I am Marc, or Chee, currently a 3rd year Journalism student form UP Baguio. (Age of the author is not published for it is deemed not significant to the readers,if there are any or there will be in the future) I plan to make this blog as less painful to read and understand. I also plan to talk about issues that really clutter my head and make me think "what's up with that?"

And if some of you out there are asking WTH does 'Going Guderian' means, well..Heinz Guderian is a top general of Hitler's world domination campaign which included Mr. Guderian's ever so famous "Blitzkrieg" strategy. Yes it killed a lot of people back in the day, but it got the job done for the Germans. A war strategy that was very effective in the 2nd World War. Its fast, direct, and what's good about it is, it really got the job done for them. That is what I am aiming for with this blog.
I'm not aiming for your heads, guys, I'm just blabbering about stuff in this blog.

So there it goes, my first entry. My first blog. Hope i don't fade early. I'm actually counting on second wind to push through with this. Please bear with me.

Site is currently undergoing construction to serve you better. Thank you. I'll try to keep posting stuff here.

(P.S. I enjoyed watching the 'Apocalypse: Second World War' by Nat Geo so I kind of thought the Guderian fact was cool.)
